Sawmill Operator

Full time
Location: 3425 Horsefly Road, PO Box 1388, One Hundred Fifty Mile House, BC, Canada V0K 2G0

OT Timber Frames is looking for a skilled, organized, and hands-on Sawmill Operator to help manage our sawmill area and process timbers for custom timber frame projects.

This is not a high-speed production mill, and this is not a position where you will necessarily be operating a mill all day, every day. The role includes operating the sawmill and edger as needed, while also taking responsibility for the organization, inventory, and day-to-day flow of materials in the sawmill area of the yard.

You’ll work closely with project management, production, and yard teams to make sure materials are milled accurately, organized properly, and ready when needed. A key part of this position is implementing and maintaining practical systems that keep the sawmill area running smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

The right candidate is someone who understands wood, takes pride in quality work, communicates clearly, and can think ahead to keep materials, equipment, and priorities organized.

What You’ll Do

  • Operate the sawmill and edger as needed
  • Mill timbers and lumber accurately to project specifications
  • Read cut lists, plans, and material requirements
  • Inspect and select material for quality and structural suitability
  • Organize inventory and material flow within the sawmill area
  • Maintain practical systems that keep the sawmill running smoothly
  • Coordinate priorities with project management, production, and yard teams
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and basic troubleshooting
  • Keep the sawmill area clean, organized, and safe

What We’re Looking For

  • Sawmill operating experience; portable or small-scale mill experience is welcome
  • Strong knowledge of timber, lumber, and wood behaviour
  • Organized, dependable, and able to work independently
  • Takes initiative and looks for ways to improve workflow and organization
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work
  • Good communication skills and ability to manage changing priorities
  • Safety-conscious and physically capable of outdoor, hands-on work
